Lister radio is re-launching.
We will be supplying a radio service not only to the patients of Lister Hospital
but also to the staff and good people of Stevenage by broadcasting at regular
intervals on FM via a restricted service licence.
Our ultimate aim is to become a community radio station broadcasting 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. What we're trying to achieve here at Lister Radio is a
big task and financially intimidating.
Not only do we produce great quality programmes for the patients at Lister
hospital, but also we want to include the staff and all the people of Stevenage
via a community AM transmitter.
The radio station is run entirely by volunteers, offering them the opportunity
to participate and learn new skills in the media and broadcasting areas, developing
their own interpersonal skills and enabling them to be creative in everyday
life. Patients confined to hospital find themselves separated from their family
and the community for the majority of the day.
Lister Radio's aim is to provide
communication for patients and their families by becoming a community radio
station.
Running a radio station does not only involve broadcasting, it all must be
held together by a multitude of people working in other areas.
These include
admin, membership, treasury, engineering and many more. All of these tasks are
carried out by volunteers.
We are refurbishing our studios towards a launch
on AM and we need to raise money to achieve this. In total the initial set up
costs are estimated at about £25,000.
We have already raised through outside events, member's donations and sponsorship
half of this figure.
We need your help, and any donations would help us to achieve
our goal and you would help the patients, staff and visitors of Lister and in
the long term Stevenage as a whole.
Lister radio comprises a dedicated group of volunteers providing a broadcasting
service from Lister hospital, Stevenage, for the benefit of patients and the
staff. The aim is for all day broadcasting on the AM wavelength, currently there
is evening broadcasting from 5pm to 11pm and over the weekends.
The objective is to have a core membership of dedicated volunteers to provide
to the community, by means of broadcasting, programs of interest to Lister hospital
patients and staff. Membership Membership of the non profit making organisation
shall be open to any person over the age of 18 years who has paid the annual
subscription and is interested in furthering the objectives laid down by the
executive committee.
An executive committee comprising of a chairman, secretary, and trustees manages
the group. The group is a non profit making organisation and any income raised
as a result of group activities, after deductions for station running costs,
is passed on to local charities and organisations. It is anticipated that the
group will number at any time up to 50 members to provide the level of service
that is aimed for.
In addition to broadcasting the group will involve themselves in fund raising
events supporting local organisations with outside broadcasting services and
other appropriate ways.
Our expectation of members is to support the group in their objectives by being
punctual and reliable, taking care of property, doing mundane chores e.g. keeping
the studio clean and tidy and renewing membership promptly. If at any time it
becomes evident that a member is not giving a full commitment to the group,
or acts dishonestly, or commits an unlawful act, the executive committee shall
consider dismissal of the member and in such circumstances their decision shall
be final.
If you feel that you would like to be involved in the group, application should
be made to the Membership Secretary.
Lister Radio is committed to equal opportunities.
